Klammer Vineyards

The Company

Klammer Vineyards is a family business dedicated to the creation of fine wines for export markets. We are located in the Cachapoal Valley, 65 miles south of Santiago, in the heart of Chile's 6th Region. Over 11 acres of additional land planted between 2012 - 2013 in a high density pattern (approx. 8.200 vines per acre) that features Cabernet Sauvignon, Syrah, Carménère, Merlot, and Chardonnay grapes.

Our vineyards span 54 acres, supporting an output of 150,000 bottles/year. A relatively small local market for wines – whose demand has been traditionally met by 5-6 large winemakers – has placed Klammer Vineyards in a distinguished position as a producer of specialty “garage”, “boutique”, and “author” wines.

Klammer Vineyards' winemaking is at Vinícola Sietetazas, located in Molina, where state-of-the-art technology, stainless fermentation and storage tanks, as well as French, American, and Chilean barrels support a production of 800,000 gallons/year.

'Klammer Vineyards' size and simplified management structure still reflect the values of a family-owned business, founded by Ambassador Carlos Klammer Borgoño and his three sons. It relies on vineyards established by Don Carlos cousin-brother Roberto Pizarro Borgoño, a respected winegrower and enologist hailing from Universidad de Chile

History

It all began in the 1980's, when Chilean Ambassador Carlos Klammer Borgoño acquired 50 acres of the old and traditional ‘Tipaume' farm in the Cachapoal Valley. There he sought to plant home country roots, knowing that a long and prosperous diplomatic career awaited him around the world. Don Klammer was eventually assigned to represent Chilean diplomatic interests in traditional winemaking countries such as Portugal, Uruguay and Czech Republic. As a guest at countless vintages, tastings, and wine fairs, Don Klammer also endeavored to be an Ambassador for wines from the New World. He paid homage to the wonderful South African vineyards at Stellenbosch and Paal, California's Napa Valley, the French birthplace of Pinot Noir in Burgundy, as well as traditional vineyards in Bordeaux, La Rioja, Piedmont and ‘new' vines in Languedoc. Don Klammer also visited the numerous and small ‘vinho verde' vineyards in Portugal, legendary Tokaji vineyards in Hungary, Tannat vineyards west of the River Plate, the outstanding Argentine Malbec and the most special ‘terroir' in the Maghreb's Beqaa Valley. Over the years, and through his extensive travels around the world, Ambassador Klammer found Tipaume's heavenly ‘terroir' in Chile's Cachapoal Valley, where he planted and still grows French varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon, Carménère, Merlot, Syrah, Chardonnay e Sauvignon Blanc.

Vineyards

Our greatest vocation is in the production wines that are balanced and fruity, with Old World characteristics, yet preserving the freshness and vigor of the Southern Hemisphere – a direct result of Chile's natural ‘terroir' conditions – considered by many French and American enologists as a winemaker's paradise.
